Keeping the Gift Alive …

The St. John the Baptist Church Foundation is dedicated to preserving the gifts of faith and good works we have all inherited from those who came before us. The Foundation’s goal is to build an endowment that will ensure the financial well-being of the parish and benefit all of its parishioners.

Especially important, the Foundation will guarantee that its pool of funds is controlled locally by committed Church Members who can identify parish needs and act to meet them. The Foundation directors, all members of the parish, will decide how the money, which is completely independent of diocesan funds will be spent within the parish.

Foundation funds will be specially targeted to support three parish programs:

  • St. John’s Capital Construction and Maintenance Programs;
  • Parish Religious Education;
  • Charitable Work within the Congregation.

Who We Are – SJBC Foundation Board of Directors:

GREG SMITH, President

Greg owned and operated the Coldwell Banker Smith Brokerage real estate company for 38 years, so he knows something about the ins and outs of property management and ownership. He is now retired and is committed to growing the St John’s Foundation to maintain and support the ongoing needs of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Greg was born and raised in Buffalo, and has been a lifelong member of St. John’s parish. He is married to his wife, Kathy, who taught in the Johnson County school system for 35 years. Both are retired now after raising three wonderful children, and now enjoying their 8 beautiful grandchildren.

ROSS ELLIOT, SJBCF BOARD MEMBER

Ross was born in Roundup, Montana. He went to school in Roundup and later his family moved to a ranch near Melstone, Montana where Ross graduated from high school. Following graduation, Ross attended Eastern Montana College in Billings, Montana where he obtained a BS in Education. In 1969 Ross married Claudia Schwend of Bridger, Mt. Claudia worked as an X-ray tech while Ross completed his college education. In 1971 Ross was hired as a high school teacher/coach in Buffalo, Wyoming. Ross taught and coached for six years and left education to become a State Farm agent. Ross and Claudia have four children: Ty, Jennifer, Rebecca and Alecia. All four of their children are married and they also have 14 grandchildren. Following Ross’s retirement from State Farm in 2011, Ross began a second career of financial planning. He is a Certified Financial Planner and is the President of Finlayson Financial Planning where he does planning, investing and retirement services for his clients

Steve Reimann, Treasurer

Steve and his wife, Vexie, moved to Buffalo from Denver in 1992, where Steve worked as a CPA. Steve, who now works as a banker in Buffalo, is active in Johnson County and is excited to share his financial experience with the SJBC Foundation. Steve and Vexie have three children – Chelsea, Mark and Joseph.

Kris Thiele, Board of Directors

Kris Thiele, SJBCF SECRETARY

Kris is married to Dan Thiele and they moved to Buffalo from Lincoln, Nebraska in 1994. Kris and Dan have been members of St. John’s since the day they arrived. Kris is also the 6th grade math teacher at Clear Creek Middle School, as well as the Mom of three great kids — Seth, currently attending the University of Wyoming; Nicole, also at the University of Wyoming majoring in Nursing; and Aaron who is the family sport-a-holic. All are proud members of St. John’s and love living in Buffalo, surrounded by the area’s natural beauty and it’s offerings that God has provided.

John Snyder, VICE PRESIDENT

With John’s background in construction, small business and banking, along with his experience in taxation and auditing, John understands the complexity of many industries. His expertise includes working wit small business and large businesses, publicly traded companies, business and individual tax preparation, as well as auditing. John moved to Buffalo to be the Chief Financial Officer of a local bank. John’s clients ranged in size, from large companies to small sole proprietors. During his career, he performed tax planning, tax preparation, client consulting, and auditing. With his work at the bank he was able to be on the client side of the table and work closely with the external auditors, regulators, legal counsel and shareholders. John joined Cloud Peak Accounting in February 2019. At Cloud Peak Accounting, he is a CPA specializing in taxation and accounting services for various industries. John was born and raised in Caspar, Wyoming and moved to Buffalo, Wyoming in 1998. He graduated from the Black Hills State University with a B.S. in Business Administration and Accounting in 1992. John and his family chose to live in Buffalo because of the small-town environment. In his free time, John enjoys hiking, fishing and spending time with friends and family.

Peter Dube, BOARD MEMBER

Pete is one of the newest members of the SJBC Foundation Board. He is also the owner and operator of one of the top outfitters in the Rocky Mountain West. Most of his guides are personal friends who have been with him for years. They specialize in mule deer and antelope and have done so since 1983. Managing all the complexities of hunts takes a lot of time and expertise, as well as long range planning. Dube has agreements for use of over 250,000 thousand acres of land for his hunts, and land management is a big part of his skill set.
